Promises and Prophecies

“For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”—2 Peter 1:21 (ESV)
What is prophecy? According to the HELPS Bible Dictionary, prophecy is defined as something “clarified beforehand.” Prophecy involves divinely-empowered forth-telling; it conveys beforehand the mind, plans, and purposes of God.
While some identify prophecy with fortune telling or predictions, these ideas are misguided and fall way short of the truth. You see, all Bible prophecy is fact that has yet to take place; truth that has been announced ahead of time.
