How Calvary Kids Celebrates Christ

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”—Romans 10:9 (NIV)

How do Christian kids celebrate Resurrection Day? Well, since FUN is the love language of our Calvary Kids Ministry, we love it when our kids have fun as they celebrate Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. After all, celebrating Resurrection Day is the focal point of everything we believe! Jesus died and rose again to save us from our sins, and we have a reason to be excited.

Knowing we can’t gather as a church family this year, we’ve come up with three fun activities for kids to do to honor this day—and you can join them!

  1. Get Creative with Sidewalk Chalk

Colorful and creative, families can create their own Resurrection Day scenes by drawing them with chalk on their sidewalks or front windows, encouraging people to checkout CalvaryFTL.org for an online service!

Creative Idea: Draw God in heaven, baby Jesus in a manger, a cross, an open tomb, or Jesus resurrected in the sky.

  1. Convert Your Front Yard into a Neighborhood Watch

Can’t go to a Calvary church service? No problem. Let Calvary come to you! Convert your front yard into an outdoor living room by bringing out a TV and watching the service. This also becomes a great opportunity to share this special day with your neighbors, as they too can watch from a safe distance! Get your kids excited by letting them decorate your front yard with lots of colorful Resurrection Day decorations.

Creative Idea: Your children will love the opportunity to create a display for your home. Use two large white memory boards to tell the story of Resurrection Day. Let the kids draw a cross on one board and the words LIFE on the other. With this, you can help your children (and passersby) understand the importance of Christ’s sacrifice. A Cross = Life.

  1. Connect with Other Families Online and . . . Party!

Church families know how to celebrate this special holiday, so don’t let COVID-19 stop the party! Using Zoom, or a similar app, invite your family and friends to a virtual hangout. Get the kids excited by crafting e-invites and coming up with games you can do together virtually.

Creative Idea: Let the kids come up with a “picture” game using words and pictures, with one side of the card having pictures and the other side having words. Think outside the box to win the game!

As you prepare for Resurrection Day this year, remember, fun activities such as these help children understand the joy that comes with celebrating Christ. So, enjoy!
